WHEN THIN IS NOT IN CAUSES OF THINNING HAIR

The old saying tells us we can never be too rich or too thin but that does not apply to our hair. Thin is never in when it comes to your tresses. If you need to gain a little thickness above your eyebrows, you may need to make a few lifestyle changes or pay a visit to your physician. Read over some of the most common causes of thinning hair and see what changes you need to make to keep your crowning glory looking glorious.


Your hair is just bundles of protein fibers but it means so much more to most women. Its an extension of your personality, a piece of your self-image and, most importantly, a reflection of your overall health. Its not just your sex appeal and confidence that are on the line when your hair is thinning.

Thinning hairisn'tjust a few more strands in the brush. Women with thinning hair may notice a gradual widening of the part, a visible thin spot at the crown or sudden patches anywhere on the head. Around 30 different medical reasons can be blamed for hair loss in women and thatdoesn'teven include bad habits like heat styling.

Crash Dieting
Starving yourself is no way to lose weight. Its unhealthy to limit your choices to a single food or food group or carve your calorie limit down to the bone. Crash dieting will take a toll on your body and eventually your hair as well.


Your hair is made largely from protein. You cannot remove this nutrient from your diet and not expect to see negative results in your hair. It may take weeks or even months for the damage to be apparent but it will show up in weak spots, dryness and thinning areas. If you are trying to lose weight, set reasonable goals like .5 kg or so per week, and eat a variety of foods. Dont cut lean protein from your diet.

Hormonal fluctuations
If you take birth control pills or are of menopausal age, changes in your hormones can cause thinning hair. (Conversely, pregnancy hormones can increase your hairs growth.) Medications

They can put your hair into a chemically-induced resting phase. Ask your doctor about low-androgen options or choices with fewer side effects.

Thyroid dysfunction
A malfunction in your thyroid gland can cause problems with your skin and hair as well as other parts of your body. A simple blood test can tell you if this is your issue but you must see a physician to diagnose and treat thyroid dysfunction.

Heat damage


Blow drying and heat styling can cause serious breakage. Your health might not be on the line when you pick up a straightener but your hair is. Damage from heat styling shows up as broken strands, split ends and uneven lines. Reduce your heat usage to avoid the damage.

Thinning hair can be a symptom of a serious health problem so see a doctor if you notice your part widening.
